A Surprise Proposal | Hampton Engagement Photographer

How we Planned it

My sister had scheduled a small session with me for her son, my nephew, Ryan and his girlfriend Chasity for pregnancy announcement photos. A week or so later she told me that Ryan had secretly bought a ring for Chasity and planned a surprise proposal at the end of our session. I was so excited! He wanted to do it at the beach, and our little mini-session was early, around 11am. (I was so glad that there were some light clouds in the sky to help diffuse that harsh noon light.) To get some shade, I suggested we start at the front “yard” at Fort Monroe. When we got there, we were lucky again – the cherry blossoms were in bloom!

The Surprise Proposal

We finished up with some more announcement photos at the water and then I asked if there was anything else that they would like to do (my little cue for surprise proposals!). That’s when the day got a little crazy. Ryan, nervous as crap, I’m sure, dropped the ring in the sand at his feet! Chasity hadn’t yet figured out what was going on, so we had to pretend that the item dropped was a key fob. My sister and I dove in to help Ryan sift through the sand and the ring was recovered quickly! Now we have a fun story and a surprise proposal we will never forget!

If you’ve followed my blog, or any of my social media, you’ll learn that I absolutely adore capturing love in all it’s forms. There’s nothing more fun than being able to catch these beautiful reactions during surprise proposals. All the emotions that are running through these two people really make amazing photos.

If you’re planning a surprise proposal, let’s schedule a couple’s session! Your significant other won’t even know what your true intentions are!
