Hiring a wedding photographer when you live out of the state is a difficult process for couples who aren’t local to Hampton Roads. Alison and Paul were in Texas just last year when they hired me for their May Founder’s Inn wedding. We didn’t get to meet or chat too much, but we meet for their engagement session in February where I got to learn a little about each of them (see my post about why to do engagement sessions here). They are both active Air Force – which is where they met. After hearing their friends speeches at the wedding, I learned that all of them were so happy when these two started dating – and surprised! Once you get to know them a little, however, you can understand why they are so perfect for each other.
Paul’s emotions and love for Alison were so very obvious when he saw his bride for the first time as she walked down the aisle escorted by her father, also military (he just recently retired – congrats!!), and he never stopped looking at her for the rest of the night! Their traditional Catholic ceremony was the most important part of their day, and it was a beautiful and emotional service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk, VA. Friends and family came from all over the world to see these two tie the knot!
A crazy fun reception followed at The Founder’s Inn in Virginia Beach, VA, with all the traditions, plus a TON of dancing. The wedding took place over the Memorial Day weekend holiday, so Paul gave a heartfelt speech to thank and remember all of the soldiers who have been lost in the name of war. The wedding favors were commemorative pins in honor of this day also – such a beautiful touch.
We ended the night just before a rain storm started and were able to do their planned sparkler exit. It was the longest group of sparkler-holders I have ever seen, but the photos are gorgeous! They really did an awesome job at planning everything, and their friends and family were a great group of people to hang around. I wish the two of you all the joy and happiness that is possible, and a lifetime of smiles. Congratulations!
