This year, I’ve had some interesting wedding clients. I’ve had a couple who did their engagement session in the rain, another who’s first dance was a choreographed salsa dance (wow!), and two sets of couples who know each other but didn’t even know they were both using me for their weddings – all happening in the same year! I feel so lucky sometimes to get such beautiful and sweet couples to work with. Kayla and Luke at their Yorktown Beach wedding were definitely no exception to this years trend of awesome couples!
If you follow my blog posts, you may recall Luke and Kayla’s engagement session in Colonial Williamsburg (you can take a look at it here). They were practically glowing in their engagement photos, and that didn’t stop on the wedding day. Every pose I put them in turned out amazing.
Kayla’s bouquet was pink-white peonies – and they were so beautiful. Before this year, I had never seen these flowers (unless they were silk) before this year, and they are definitely my new (second) favorite wedding flower (roses stand a very strong first!). Each bridesmaid had a similar bouquet that perfectly matched their soft-pink dresses, adding a beautiful touch to their look. Luke spent the day in his newly aquired military blues while his groomsmen donned classic black tuxedos! Everything went together perfectly!
Their ceremony was short and sweet, but was spiced up with a beautiful song sung by Kayla’s brother Kyle, any played on a ukulele, which really made the day memorable. We were really lucky to get all of their portraits and travel done just before a torrential downpour that had been threatening all afternoon finally broke free. But there were nothing but smiles from everyone as they made their grand entrance and went straight into cutting the cake until the rain subsided a little.
The rest of the night was spent dancing – and let me tell you – this family knows how to dance! We had such a great time under the tent at the Yorktown Beach wedding venue, the Freight Shed. The DJ didn’t falter, and the music played all night until it was time for the grand exit and Luke and Kayla made their getaway in a gorgeous classic cherry red mustang!
I’m so happy to have been a part of Luke and Kayla’s day and I can’t wait until November when I photograph their friends wedding in Norfolk!
