Hampton Engagement Session | Nina & Michael at Fort Monroe

I don’t know about you, but I am sooooo very happy that the temperature’s are finally going up (well, at least a few degrees anyway!). I am anxious to get back outside and shoot! I did get super lucky for this Hampton engagement session in February, though. We had very nice weather for almost 2 hours before a dense fog bank rolled in from the Bay, bringing some frigid air along with it – which we definitely weren’t dressed for (take a look at the “ghost ship” image near the end of the session!).

Nina and Michael are getting married in Texas, where all of Michael’s family lives. And Nina’s family, well, they’re going to have to travel no matter where they get married – they all live in Guam! Yes, Guam. Have you ever met anyone from Guam? Nina was pleased to be my first Guamanian, and she quickly stated that she hoped to be the last (she likes being the only one!).  I also got to meet their adorable fur-baby, which is always a plus!

We chose Fort Monroe for this Hampton engagement session to take advantage of the wide variety of backgrounds and “feels” that the Fort offers. It is always my go-to for engagement sessions because of it’s versatility – there’s a beach, trees, grass, old rustic buildings, and a beautiful spot to photograph the sunset over the Chesapeake Bay (although we didn’t get to see much of that after that fog came!).

I don’t often get to capture engagement photos for couples that haven’t hired me for their wedding photography, but I have such a wonderful time none-the-less. I love creating natural and intimate poses and getting couples to “feel the love” when they are in front of my camera. Nina and Michael’s love for their images was all the reward I needed!

Congratulations Nina & Michael! I hope you have a beautiful wedding in Texas and I can’t wait to capture your next milestone in Hampton Roads!
