Engagements at Mariners’ Museum | Jada & James

When I first met Jada and James to talk about their wedding plans, they lived locally. But a couple months before their engagements at Mariners’ Museum, they made a huge change and relocated to Texas. I thought it was crazy that I’ve had three clients that either lived in Texas or moved there, just this year! Texas must be a great place to live! I couldn’t handle the heat though, and Jada confirmed that it is MUCH hotter there than it is here!

Since they had to fly in for the weekend to do their engagements at Mariners’ Museum, we had to work around the weather. As most locals know, the summer weather in Virginia is either terribly hot and sticky, or it’s raining – especially in June! Since we had a 70% chance of storms in the evening, we decided to do the session in the afternoon. Although it isn’t something I do very often since the sun is so high up, it really worked out great with sporadic cloud cover and the hundreds of of shady spots at Mariners’ Museum park.

We started out walking through the beautiful garden right next to the main museum building. There are several sweet spots in that garden, with lots of beautiful trees, benches, and plants. Since the museum is offering $1 entrance fees all summer, we went inside to see if we could find any nice spots to get a good shot and we found the perfect place right near the entrance (that’s the silhouette in front of a wall of marbled glass!). After cooling down quit a bit, we didn’t want to go back outside! We decided to drive over to the Lion’s Bridge to finish up the session, and with the breeze coming off the river, and the fluffy clouds, it felt so much better. We never did see rain that day, but I wouldn’t have changed the session one bit!
